Canopius appoints Head of Casualty, U.S.

Chicago – 14 August 2024 – Canopius, a global specialty lines (re)insurer, today announced the appointment of Steve Mills to the role of Head of Casualty in the U.S.

Steve’s industry experience spans more than 30 years, including leadership roles with multiple insurance organizations that operate across various segments and specialties.  He most recently served as President of Excess & Surplus (E&S) at tech-enabled MGA start-up Ledgebrook, and also in a similar role at The Hanover Insurance Group previously.

While Steve’s underwriting expertise is across multiple lines of business, Canopius will be asking him to lean on his deep Casualty underwriting experience. This will include developing both E&S primary casualty and excess casualty products, to be offered directly to Canopius’ trading partners.

Steve is currently based in the Greater Atlanta area where Canopius continues to expand its underwriting talent footprint. He will report to Lisa Davis, CEO of U.S. & Bermuda.

Lisa Davis, CEO, Canopius U.S. & Bermuda, said:

“We’re delighted that Steve is joining Canopius to continue developing our U.S.-based Casualty business. He is clearly passionate about building and leading underwriting teams that deliver market-relevant solutions and profitable growth.

“The US E&S market continues to present opportunities for us. With Steve’s help, we hope to drive higher overall growth and build a more diversified Casualty portfolio in the U.S. & Bermuda region.”

Steve Mills, Canopius Head of Casualty, U.S, said:

“I’m thankful to the Canopius Group for this unique opportunity to both champion the Canopius culture and bring additional product capabilities to the U.S. market. The new E&S primary casualty and excess casualty products will deliver value to our clients while expanding upon, and diversifying the overall Canopius product portfolio.”
