CHICAGO, IL – June 13, 2024 – Canopius, the global specialty (re)insurer, today announces it has appointed Anthony Nguyen as Vice President, Underwriting as our US Marine team looks to drive strategic expansion on the U.S. West Coast.
Based in California, Anthony will be critical to this strategy and will oversee the development of a local offering as well as work with the broader U.S. team to deliver a cohesive product across the whole market. In his role, Anthony will report directly into John Ellis, Head of US Ocean Marine and work alongside Neetu Varghese supporting Marine Cargo.
Nguyen brings over a decade of experience to the role, most recently having served as an Underwriting Consultant Director at CNA Insurance and previously as a Senior Underwriter at Allianz Global Corporate.
The appointment follows a series of significant hires in the region as it looks to expand and continue its growth trajectory after a record financial performance in 2023. The hire enables Canopius to build a Marine team on the West Coast, expanding to meet its East Coast presence and better serve its clients across the country. It comes after the Group made strategic hires in the US across the board, with the appointment of Uwe Schoberth as Head of Distribution as well as built out its reinsurance offering in Bermuda with Jesse DeCouto and Brent Slade as Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of ILS respectively.
