Canopius today announces the appointment of Andrew Tongue as underwriter, trade & political risk, effective beginning of March. He will also act as deputy to Crispin Hodges, head of trade & political risk.
Tongue brings almost a decade of industry experience to Canopius’ newly created Trade Political Risk unit. He joins from Swiss Re where most recently he served as senior underwriter, political risks and trade credit. He also held senior underwriter positions at AXA Africa Specialty Risks and CNA Hardy respectively prior to that.
The trade political risk unit sits within Canopius’ existing credit, political risk and crisis management division, which comprises the political risk book of syndicate 1861, formerly managed by AmTrust at Lloyd’s.
Crispin Hodges said: “Andrew is exactly the calibre of underwriter we wish to attract, and his extensive expertise and experience will be a huge advantage as we develop the proposition further. We are delighted to announce he will be joining the team.”
Bernie de Haldevang, head of credit, political & crisis management, said: “Following the integration of AmTrust, Canopius has a greatly extended political risk capability. Andrew’s appointment demonstrates our intent to fully capitalise on the huge potential that has been created. Further expansion is expected, and the Syndicate 1861 portfolio will play an essential part in that.”
